说起这尊渡海观音，还颇有些来历。据说此乃清康熙年间，圣祖皇帝赏给当时的文渊阁大学士宰相、泉州安溪人李光地的御赐之物，后来辗转流落民间，数易其主，历尽沧桑，至上个世纪50年代，方归泉州文物部门所有，90年代为泉州海外交通史博物馆所收藏
